Greetings! This is unfortunately The Message with the Sad Moonfair News – the time to finish up has arrived. Some comps are still accepting entries, but this is the Official Closure. Actually, it’s a little bit overdue, since it’s no longer midnight...meh. Kind of like when the Olympic torch is blown out and the party continues for days afterwards... Many thanks once again to all the groovy moonies who helped out to organise everything. If you’ve organised a webpage, set up an event, judged an entry, or suggested a name for an award – anything at all, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! The past few weeks have been fab, and I’ve enjoyed being able to get online (or at least, look forward to getting online!) to do something FUN every tick of the clock Before the mad scramble to organise the pointage begins, I’d like to ask every member to give some feedback about the Moonfair with 3 stars, 2 sparks and 1 wish. I’ll post my own as extra examples, but to explain: The three stars (* * *) are three things you really liked about the set up of the Moonfair. Try to be as specific as possible by naming specific techniques used by specific organisers, and try to start the sentence with “I liked the way...”. Eg, * I liked the way the main Moonfair page was a mysterious map of the Land. The two sparks (^ ^) are for two activities you would really like to see happen again next year. Suggestions of how they could grow would be GREAT, but they’re not necessary: Eg, ^ The Ashlings’ Big Black Book of Council Lore And the wish (~) is for something which you wish could have happened, including stuff which might have happened in 2003 which didn’t happen this year. Try to make this focussed on stuff under our control, rather than stuff we can’t organise at all. Eg, ~ I wish there had been fewer activities so that more people had entered per activity RATHER THAN: ~ I wish more people had entered the moonfair events. Finally, I’m aware some people might get offended by the wishes that are posted here. If you want to be an anonymous poster, that’s fine, but try to be constructive rather than just plain ole mean. If you think you can’t do it, please instead email any stars/sparks/wishes you have to moonfair04 @ hotmail.com (minus spaces). Everyone has done really well to put in as much effort as they have, and I reckon it’s been a much huger event than in 2003 – and better yet, it seemed to run more smoothly, which is an excellent improvement. So this exercise is just to try and make it even better next year. Thanks again, and the winner of the 2004 Moonfair Cup will be announced...eventually! *raises a glass of champagne flavoured chocca* To Isobelle Camody, for introducing us to the wonderful notions of Moonfairs! *drinks heartily* Cheerio, Lauren EDIT: The list of events has now been moved to www.obernewtyn.net/MOONFAIR04/list_of_comps.html. They should all be there except Konvert Kayt/Assimilate Avra - lettuce know if we've missed any others out

…and these are my stars, sparks and wishes. If you want to put in more stars, sparks or wishes, that’s fine, but I’m asking that these numbers be the minimum you give. Also, it’s cool to be repetitive, so don’t feel like you need to think up something new just for the sake of having a different post * I liked the way the guilds were each given a theme, and that each guild really stuck to their themes to organise their activities. (I’m truly impressed with the imaginations we’ve pulled out of the woodwork in this place!!) * I liked the way the border was designed on the Wanderers Moonfair website. * I liked the way there were non-competitive events as well as competitive events. ^ Min’s Uber-impossible Ober Quiz and Kayt’s LOTR/HP/Ober challenge (maybe combined next year...?) ^ Megana’s Murder the Herder game (maybe organise this with the Treasure Hunt. That would be...interesting!!) ~ I wish I could have sent out more Moonfair notices to everyone – eg, reminders about events which seemed to be neglected and highlighting entries and events which are new and interesting. Cheerio, Lauren

Ooh... okay!
Um...
*I really adored the whole Themes thing. We must do that again! It was great to see everyone sticking to their themes so well! It also made it easier sometimes to come up with ideas, because you had the guidelines to work within. *I loved the main map, which Min designed. It was so cute! *I, like Lauren, loved some of the non-competitiveness. (Although I resent the Dreamweavers for saying I'm most like Rushton!!!)
^I had a great time with the Uber-Impossible Ober Quiz, yet again! ^Murder the Herder was Awesome! ^The Battlegames were so funny!
~I wish that there was more incentive, so people would REALLY enter comps. (Wandies were super slack!)
Later ya'll!

* I really loved the map too! ;D * I loved the guild websites! Huzzah to the web teckies for doing a brilliant job! ;D * I too loved the themes. They were very well done, and made the whole moonfair so much more cool (gotta love my gramma!)
^ Elixa's search for the land of the red queen game was great! I got so hooked on it! ^ And yay for the Uber-impossable quiz! It HAS to come back next year again!
~ I wish the Ashlings had have been more active this year. Ok, I think that wasn't a wish that we can improve on, but I just had to say it. Ok, a real wish. I wish that my computer wasn't so d@mn tempermental, and would actually let me get to half of the places I wanted to go. But I am fixing this prob. I'm buying a PC laptop for X-mas! ;D
Huzzah for another excellent and most enjoyable moonfair!!! ;D

* Like everybody else, I thought Min's 'map' design for the main Moonfair page was fantastic. * The Guild themes were a great idea. They gave everyone an automatic theme for their website and even the games and competitions. Maybe next year we could have guilds (as in the actual guilds in Obernewtyn) or something... * There was a lot of co-operation between the guilds for the Moonfair and that was fantastic to see. Being in charge of the Treasure Hunt, I rely on the other guilds to help me in hiding the pieces and they were fantastic with that. Thank-you very much. ^ I'd like to run the Treasure Hunt again. It's always a lot of fun, especially when the entries start to come in. ^ Any writing competitions are always good. ~ I wish I'd had more time to really visit the Moonfair. I was caught up in so many things, along with moving, and I didn't have a chance to do any of the guilds' sites real justice. ~ I wish I hadn't had so many hassles with one particular website tek. They made their own guild look bad and gave me hassles I could have done without. Argh - sorry about the pessimism at the end, but it really gave me a lot of stress I could have done without. Apart from that, it was a fantastic Moonfair. I would have liked it if it could have gone on for a little longer - I wasn't ready for it to end!

well well well i think everyone has said pretty much wat i want to say too, so ill try and think of somethin different! or ill just double it all sorry!
stars: *like everyone has said - MIN ur job was fantastic! easy to use and beautifully presented. the themes also added to the enjoyment of it, cos altho some comps where similar the different themes put great twists to it all and kept it interesting, challenging and different. *i too enjoyed the mix of fun activities, competitive ones and others that u could jsut give a go or be as creative as u wished. (not needing any real knowledge of the books) there was nothing that limited the participant, but every activity challanged ppl who did have a particular strength/talents in that area. but ive got to say the ones i enjoyed the most were the on goin type - so crackered, herder/misfits, battle arena. not only were they compeitive and point gaining they were fun! jsut a good game! * the co-operation b/w guilds was great! any time u asked for help or assitence it was ther and everything ran sooo smoothly! (well form wat i saw) everyone was always avalible nad eager to help! its great!
^give me CRACKERD!!! im addicted! so not cool! ^ober impossible quiz ^logic puzzels ^plenty more jsut fun/entertaining non competitve games (eg personality quiz, battle arena)
~i want to see more scope next yr. eg, musics comps, art comps, debates, creative, factual - keep it as broad as possible so ppl can find a neche they enjoy. i found this yrs highly storywiritng creative - which is great but i was highly intimidated to enter cos my talent doesnt lay in those areas, so maybe thinking up a song, or a interactive quiz (like ask a different factual question each day, ppl get to post one answer and it goes from there to test ur knowledge of the actual texted) ~i also didnt like the links to the moonfair. since the majority of obernet is now on the probairds (im sure this is first point of call for many ppl) it would have been nice to have the moonfair page link on the moonfair thread! just for convience. ~i deffinately agree with lauren! a reminders thread/note needed to go out! esp since ppl are contantly joining. it would aslo help inform ppl of late opening, ealry closing activites etc..
ok well so much for me making it different! i think everyone has pin pointed and reflected on the moonfair so well! there is a need to gain more ppl to participate BUT i dont think that is a moonfair problem as much as how the obernewtyn site is now set up! confusion and no realy knowlege about the guilds or things like that make it hard for the newbies to understand long running traditions/competitivness. since most ppl think the message boards (im assuming here) are the site there is a lack of guild need/interst/understanding...i think reflecting nad changing a few things to increase this awareness will increase paricipation in next yrs moonfair (if there is one)...
hope that all made sense if not please let me no!

*bangs head on table* argh, i just finished writing, was about to post and then somehow the window closed!!! typical here we go again...
well, peope have probably said what i'm about to say, but oh well ;D
*i loved the main moonfair page with the map!!! awesome! *I loved the themes. It also made making up comps and stuff easier, as you had a theme to work with. *i really liked the set out of the wanderers page! it was cute
^Hunt for Talents!!! huzzah! ^Battlegames! ^Cracker'd!
~I wish the moonfair went on longer!!! i had so many things i wanted to enter, but because during the last week of moonfair i had school, i didn't have time *mutters about school*

* *blushes* I know a lot of you said you loved the site, so I'd like to say I loved making it. It pushed some web design and graphic design limits. Fun * Themes should be back, and I'm seconding Buneater's motion that we base it on the actual Obernewtyn Guilds - Lauren can draw two guilds out of a hat for each Obernet guild? * I loved the interaction this year. The Moonfair prep has gone a LONG way from a few of us doing the comps/sites to everyone helping out, then everyone entering as well twas fun. Sure, harder to organise, but still keeping with the spirit of Obernewtyn! ^ Treasure hunt has to be back. I hate it because I CAN'T FIND THE LAST THREE PIECES (yeah I got the PM about it too...)! But I still love it... ^ I want Kayt's Ober/HP/LotR challenge again! I love making up silly answers to questions like that. ^ Can I have another one??? The Obernewtyn Awards. Muchly fun, and definately a good way to kick things off. Maybe we can work out an actual voting system for next year? ~ I wish it had gone for a little longer. We had about 2 months of prep for less actual competition time...I missed out on entering a lot because I couldn't find any more time!! Sorry mystics

Another couple of stars... * I really liked the way people actually used the moonfair board this year * I liked the way new people volunteered for jobs this year, and that the ‘old’ people from last year could start up some soon-to-be traditions (like the SWC and treasure hunt and cracker’d and the uber quiz...and wotever else I’ve forgotten...) ...some more sparks... ^ Obernewtyn Game design ^ Spices Quiz. Actually, I liked all the quizzes. Will cut down on sparkage if I say that... ^ Sadorian Riddle Challenge (I didn’t enter coz the riddles confounded me too much and my riddles seemed too obvious – but I like really liked the concept!!) ^ Monument design contest ^ AAAAAND THE ONE-IN-THREE-WORD CHALLENGE!!! I LOVED THIS EVENT!!! ...and I thought of another wish. ~ I wish there had been more puzzly sorts of activities, like mazes and brainteasers and find a words. I mean, I really liked the battlegames, the Murder the Herder game, the gypsy game and the rescue mission, because there was stuff you had to do in addition to finding the bits and pieces of info. But I reckon they’d also have been fantastically better if there had been more thinking power required to progress through the stages to get to the end task. Like, maybe there’s a sequence of password-protected pages, and there’s a puzzle at the end of each section of the game. The solution to the puzzle would be a one-word answer which is the password to the next section. Or maybe there are multiple answers, and the answer you choose changes the page you find, and therefore the outcome of the story. It would take a bit of setting up, but probably not much more than the amount that happened this year. Anyway, sorry if I’m treading on people’s toes, coz I really really REALLY liked the games mentioned above! I was really impressed by the effort and imagination you all put in!! There was just something bothering me about the differences between the games last year and the games this year, and I finally figured it out to be less puzzly and more interactive. Or maybe that’s just the vibe I got personally. I’m not sure. But hopefully this helps get a good balance of stuff for next year Cheerio, Lauren

Right... * I, like it seems everyone else did, really loved the map and the themes, so I'll combine them! Huzzah! I suddenly lost my thought... Great, I'll just move on and come back later and add to these... ^ I liked Kayt's HP / LOTR / Ober quiz ^ In fact, I liked most of the quizs. The fact I couldn't answer most of them is beside the point... ^ I liked the Big Black Book of Council Lore. It was cool... Actually, I'd really like to see what other people put as their entries and whether they were as weird as mine... ^ I also REALLY liked the logic puzzles, and I now have an excel thing devoted to them, but I haven't been able to crack any of them I'm one thing away in one of them, though... ~ I wish the moonfair had gone on longer! ~ I don't know how to phrase this in a wish, but something that sorta confused me that we might be able to make eaiser next year is on at least one guild's site (might have been ashlings...) they staggered when some of their competitions could be entered. This could have been better posted and also, it was kind of annoying when I did have time that I couldn't enter the competitions (Not trying to be mean, guys!!) ~ And as a last and probably petty wish, I wish SOMEONE had entered the Princess Story that I signed up to judge! Maybe we should flog it more next year... I might think of more *s later... I had some, but i forgot them all!! Cat ;D
