How do you choose your own pic? Can you use one which is just a part of a web-page, not a stand-alone?

I ain't sure about just using one from your computer - I'm fairly certain it'll have to be online somewhere (but that's fairly easy, setting up a website account via geocities and all; at worst, send it to me, and I'll put it on mine for ya!!) - but if it's on a webiste, it'll have its own little stand-alone address anyway, tis just a matter of finding it. FOR EXAMPLE: Go to www.obernewtyn.net, then right-click on the pic of Elf, click on "Properties", and you should see "Address (URL)". This be the address of the pic - copy-and-paste it into your address bar, and you'll see wot I mean. Same deal as if you go to www.obernewtyn.net/ashlings.html - right-click on those pics, look for the URL addy, and that should be wot you use for the address of your personal pic. Go to your profile page, under "I have my own pic", tick the box, and enter that URL. I'm not sure if the pics are automatically resized, but to keep 'em small, aim to keep their custom width and height around 65x65, otherwise you sometimes get more picture than message You may need to be careful of where you take your pics from, too - some people can get narky if you take them without permission. That said, my apologies to the ober.net web-tekkies for using their pics as examples...I hope people don't start nicking 'em left, right and centre without asking... Cheerio, Lauren

Thanks, Lauren - I didn't know that, about the right click. So that's cool. Mind you, the instant I chose an image, the site it was on went and moved, and I was left looking at an ad next to my name. So hopefully this time they'll stay put and I'll be able to keep my pic blindmouse ps - Lauren, I can't see your pic at the moment. I don't know if that's a peculiarity of my computer?

No, that's because GeoCities doesn't allow remote linking, curse them! I've been going around recommending PhotoBucket as an alternative, only to see their servers go down two nights in a row. Argh! I've been using them for ages and it's the first time they've had any trouble.

There is also fotopic.net as an alternative. It takes a while for pictures to appear during peak hours compared to photobucket but I haven't had any problems with the server. It also has the option of remote-linking.
