I'll send over a couple of ballet-dancing elephants to stomp your computer into submission, good Shadow.

That could be due to static electricity. We have a couple of guys in our department who occasionaly just have to touch a PC and it will crash! Not good for an IT Dept!

Does static effect things THAT badly? oh dear... My new shoes seem to be generating a great deal of static electricity...I've gotten into the habit of touching the doors before door handles to avoid the zapping... *sobs* but I love my shoes...they make me taller

I get zaps sometimes if I touch metal. At my old house, I got into the habit of tapping the bench before turning the tap on, because it would so often zap me. And don't get me started on closing car doors after stepping out...

The building I work in is terrible for static electricity. The door handles and bannisters are forever giving me shocks, and I hate it. Haven't crashed my laptop with it yet, though... (*touches wood*)

hehehe... that really tickles my funnyt bone.... (sorry, feeling a bit random at the moment) As for computers being killed off, this year I have single handledly killed 3 computers - 2 laptops and a box. AND I don't suffer from static electricity! I'm now stuck using uni computers until I can justify the risk of buying a new laptop (I'm thinking I'll try a mac this time around). Seriously - I had one of the laptops for only 3 weeks before it refused to boot up unless I had it turned on it's side, and the box i was using at home just freaked out one day, refusing to acknowledge the CD drive, and randomly crashing. The first laptop fell apart. literally. i wish I could blame it on static electricity, but I think the truth is that computers don't like me.

No warranties... the first one (the one that fell apart) was about 5 years old. The second laptop was Scott's old one, it was around 3 years old (worked fine until he gave it to me!). The box was a retired Dept of Ed computer that I got at christmas. No actual warranty, but they are going to try and fix it, because it really shouldn't have died this quickly...
Of course, now I've killed 3 computers in 4 months, no one will let me anywhere near theirs!!! (except the silly people at uni... mwahahahaha....)

There's a boys night with my youth group. It said 'boys are not alloud to bring girls or lamas' I couldn't beleive it! Discrimination against girls, no llamas alloud, and, worst of all, LLAMAS WAS MISSPELT!!

No I think Cookie lover had the misspelling. I'd just like to add to the sucky computer crashing that everyone seems to be having. That happened to my computer and now I'm on slow internet And wow - I didn't realise static electricity could be so bad on computers!

Im a static computer killer too! My hair causes it. If i brush it on a warm night you can see the sparks juming through it sometimes just moving my head does it!
im fine if the computer case is closed because the cases are statically protected. My boyfriend wont allow me to touch the computers if the cases are open. Im not allowed to touch any parts that are out of the cases either.
Im only allowed if i have a heavy duty anti static wrist strap on (the kind that are earthed through a powerpoint) my hair tied back and tucked under a hat.
