Greetings and meetings! That's right! The Tenth Writing Competition is now open. The Writing Competition is an annual (sometimes twice-annual!) tradition at ober.net and has been around since the site's inception (well.. close enough ) It consists of three sections; The Obernewtyn Section (for all fanfiction and pieces related to the Chronicles), the General Section (for all non-Obernewtyn related writings) and the General Poetry Section. Conditions of EntryParticipants may enter a maximum of three pieces PER section (a total of nine per competition), of no more than 5000 words each. For more details on the conditions of entry; please visit The Rules!. Why enter? The real question is, why not! The Writing Comp rocks! It's fun for the whole family. Whether you're a up-and-coming writer or someone who has only just stumbled upon the existance of dictionaries, the writing comp welcomes you. Because if there's anything we love more than a good turn of phrase, it's participation and supporting the good ober.net. Plus, there are points Points for everyone! For more information on the points for participating in the writing comp, visit the Points Forum of these boards. Oh! AND don't forget to read The Rules! before entering. JudgesJudges: Ober Section: Kayt, Emerald and Megana General Section: Clare, Buneater and Brownie Poetry Section: Rigel, Cat-Eyes and Dawny Important LinksThe Tenth Writing Competition: Entries, Rules and Results
ENTRIES CLOSE: MIDNIGHT 24th MARCH.

Clare, do humourous essays have a place under the general section? because I have one that I would very much like to enter...

Yep. Humorous essays are allowed. We've had serious essays before. Just keep it mind that you will be judged along-side stories unless there are so many humerous essays that we need to create a special sub-category

hey Clare. i'm emailing my pieces to you today. one of my stories for the general section is a combination of poetry and prose. is that okay? also, the subject matter is a little ... mature? i've edited it for naughty bits and words, but its in no way crude. just kinda ... i dunno ... you'll see when you read it. its more of a reflection on some stuff that happened in my life a few years back than an actual beginning-middle-end story.

I'm sure it will be fine. I'll do an update on Sunday and check it out then. Lots of entries early on, well done people! Keep them coming!

Don't worry Neisha, I've still got your entry (well, I >think< I still have your entry hehe). There isn't actually a deadline for the specfanfic at present. It's not worth closing a challenge until I have a couple more entries (ie more than one). I was trialling a new format but obviously it wasn't very successful. Anyways... the point of this ramble is, yes, announcements are on the agenda. I haven't forgotten it.

Hey Clare You seem to be answering the questions so: I have a story that is in no way crude, but does have one f**king in it. It is completely relelevant, and somehow the story doesn't work without it. Should I edit it or not?

In cases such as this, Clare usually asks the judges to read the story first and decide whether or not it's OK. So just send it in the way you think it works best and Clare will take care of it. In the future, Danni, could you please edit your post using the button, rather than double posting?

Danke Buneater. Right. Although I've had several lucrative offers for the final judging position (Obernewtyn Section), I have decided in the interest of equity that ultimately an Ashling should fulfil the role. So Ashlings, if you have spare time (bout 2-3 weeks March-April), a strong interest in writing and a good sense of what makes a good story/piece of fanfiction please PM to volounteer!

Hmm.. I'd like to enter. I did write a fanfic at some point. Not sure if it ended up on this site or what. Dad gets too busy and forgets things a lot of times. Hopefully one day I'll get my own email. If we EVER get a computer. Then I won't have to sneak here during school time. Oh yeah that's right. He sent it to Aurian instead of Min ( if that's who you're supposed to send fanfics to anyway)... what should I do if it's not on there???

You should immediately take the opportunity to sned it in as a writing comp entry instead!!!
If you can find the file, send it off to Clare. Then it'll go into the writing comp and possibly earn muchos points for your guild!!! Won't that be nice???

Clare, a question. It says on the rules page entries are to be no longer than 5000 words, and that entries less than 5000 words will not be accepted. So am I right to assume all entries are to be 5000 words exactly? Thanks a bunch.
