Lately I haven't been able to sleep at all. I lie awake untill three am and It's so annoyinmg. When I cant sleep I sometimes just read for awhile to make me sleepy, but it doesn't work. In the morning I'm surprisingly not tired, but in the day I am. Has anyone experienced this before? It's really bloddy annoying!

Yep.
You may need to try the following things:
1/ cut out any for an hour before sleeping (tea/coffee/nicotine, etc)
2/ Try annd relax before sleeping
3/ Do lots of exercise during the day to tire you out.
It takes a while to reset your body-clock, so be patient.

i'm an insomniac, my life is spent at 3am in the mornings, i don't sleep at night anymore, i just can't..... brain doesn't stop thinking.... i have gotten very well ccquainted with late nigh telly.... But everything Dark One suggests is good. Break the habit as soon as you can, it's a killer not sleeping, literally, there's a few studies suggesting it increases your chance of a heart attack.

One thing that I was told (takes me about three hours to fall asleep, longer if I keep having to get up and do stuff like let the dogs out etc) was that even if I only got about four hours sleep that night, try to wake up at the same time early in the morning and actually get up instead of snoozing. Doesnt work for me cause I'm always sleeping in (my alarm's broken, I swear!) but might help. About the caffeine thing: if it doesnt work with not having it for about an hour or so before you go to bed you might need to try leaving it for longer, say stop drinking it after about five in the evening. And apples apparently have more caffeine in them than both tea or coffee and are better at keeping you awake. Reading before you go to bed is also apparently better for you than just lying there and not doing anything. Something like if you're lying there for more than thirty minutes and not even getting a little sleepy then you should get up for a little bit then go back to bed. TV should be off cause the light play, if it suddenly changes, can "jar" you awake again, same with music although some quieter stuff can e helpful apparently. All I can remember that I've been told at the moment. If your sleepy through the day but cant get enough sleep at night catnaps can be helpful. In the morning when I first wake up I'm really tired, but once I start moving about I'm fine. Same with during the day. When I'm mving round I'm wide awake, when I'm sitting down (and listening to certain lecturers ) then I start to get tired again.

Woot for hallucinations! I get them all the time... and i love the ones where i know i'm hallucinating, and i try to tell the things that they're an hallucination, and could i please go back to sleep now? The funniest one i ever had was when i was really really crook, i had a very high temp, and i swore that i was lying on a pile of ties (yes, ties, work ties) in a department store, and people kept coming up to me to ask me if i would like a coffee, and i kept saying "No, i don't want coffee, but do me a favour and get Mum, but considering you're a figment of my imagination that's not going to be much help...." Anyway, you all needed to know that

Yeah, I have trouble sleeping too. It usually takes me 2-3 hours to get to sleep.(my mind is still active and it is hard to calm down) I find that I have to focus on clearing my mind. that usually works. Sometimes I just give up on trying to sleep and stay up... and sleep during the day. It's hard and a pain trying to get back to my regular sleeping patterns. It doesn't help that I like sleeping in and staying up late.. Good luck on trying to sleep.

i get it sometimes, and have gotten very good at surviving on 4 hours sleep, and phone calls over a 2 hr time difference arent helping not that im really complaining. ive found that putting rose oil on my pillows helps to relax me and i get a better nights sleep, and find it easier to get to sleep. lavender is supposed to work but it doesnt with me. you may need to go through a matter of trial and error to find one that works for you, though it could save a lot of time to do some research and avoid oils that are supposed to energise you etc.

I only managed 43hrs. I got bored eventually! I didn't actually hallucinate, which is depressing. I was just jittery and felt like i was tipsy. new gov. campaign slogan 'Sleep-deprivation - better than drugs!'

I don't drink coffee, tea or any caffene. I allways read before I go bed, and when I can't go to sleep I walk around the house. I once jumped on the trampoline outside for a while.
It's just so strange.

I find reading material such as Torts: an introduction for students usually does the trick regarding the inspiration of sleep.
Then again, I wouldn't take anything I say to heart as I just drank an entire rather sizable plunger pot of coffee in order to stay awake for the Indianapolis grand prix. I feel jittery.
