I guess it depends on the country. I know that the Dutch army isn't interested in catering for vegetarians, because my uncle (who used to be in the marines) became a vegetarian after his six years in the services; recently, they called him up for reserve training, but then struck his name off the list when he told them of his dietary habits.
Fortunately, in Australia there's too much of an anti-conscription ethic, stretching all the way back to the First World War.

My Boy was Raised Lacto ovo Vegatarian I corrupted him- hooked him on KFC! He still dosnt eat meat unless theres no alternative tho. I never liked meat and didnt eat it until my mother made me. she was soeeied about my nutrition (I ate a very limited range of food- Pasta 2 minute noodles apples bread and cheese weetbix.) I do know that Sanitarium (the ppl who make nutmeat) entire range is vegatarian because of their association with the SDA Church, which has been promoting the benifits of a vegatarian lifestyle since the 1860s (check out http://www.adventist.org) eand has a website with healthy vetgatarian recipies at www.sanitarium.com.auI love the Vegie Delights classic Hot dog sausages. yum and simple to cook.

is candy floss (fairy floss) definately vegan? is it always vegan? It's made of spun sugar, and food colouring. Unless the food colouring is that stuff made from beetles, I'm pretty sure it's always vegan.

i too have been a vego all my life and dont eat any meat not even eggs (exept for when its in certain products an u just cant help it) my whole families vego 2 so i spose that helps, but 1 thing i really love which is a good substitute for tofu if ur getting sick of it is curd, made of milk, which u just throw in a pot and Curdle with some yoghurt or lemon/lime it depends on how u like it tho coz the texture can change depending on wat u use to curdle it...u can us it in curries and stuff...very nice my fav dish that mum makes is a curd subji...im sure if u look around the net u can find some recipes using this...try some indian food sites ( as im half indian i kno there r lots of indian recipe variations using this).... good luck with ur food hunting hope this helps

For those vegetarianly-inclined, and especially those who aren't ... watch these animations (except for the Urbanus one which is in Dutch). Click on "Groot Window" for a large window, or "Klein Window" for a small one. I don't think it makes much of a difference in download time, though. They're from the website of the Partij voor de Dieren (Party for the Animals), a relatively new animal welfare party in the Netherlands. I'll be voting for them in November - hopefully they'll win a seat! www.partijvoordedieren.nl/artikel.php?type=content&id=50

i'm not sure what to call myself. i don't eat any red meat, but i will eat a meal with chicken or fish, about once every couple of weeks (i don't know why - i get a craving for something fishy, esp calamari rings!) but i generally eat mainly vegetarian food. i am also lactose intolerant, so cannot have milk or ice-cream. i have recently found a brand of frozen yoghurt that is simply devine!
so, the things i most love to eat include tofu satay with cous cous, dahl (i put potato in my dahl - thickens it and makes it heavier), stuffed mushrooms (OMG so yummy), baked vegies with cheese sauce (i could never ever give up eating cheese), feta and watermelon salad, mexican kidney beans, chilli con carne with kidney beans and corn, lentil, split pea and barley soup, buckwheat and buttermilk pancakes, fried mushrooms with english spinach on rye toast, turkish bread melts with sundried tomatoes, roasted eggplant, pesto and danish feta, madras vegie curry, fried brown rice, pasta with mushrooms, pine nuts and peptitas and basil pesto,
they are some of my favs. and of course, lots of fruit and nuts (love haselnuts and cashews). my boyf and step daughter are pretty much vego too, but they will occassionally have a steak or something else red. i just cannot handle red meat anymore. i have not eaten it for years now (got a lovely dose of food poisoning from an evil sausage at a BBQ). and, it was also a dietary choice. i feel better not eating red meat.
why did all you guys decide to be a vego?
