Ah, but don't worry about Gypsies and Guildmembers and ratings - you have no control over those. 'Tis far better to get creative on your avatar or text or sig. You can update those whenever you like and don't have to wait until you reach a certain level of posts.

If i'm right, then you guys can set the postcount for the status change. On ours i think the change was on 500, 1000, 1500 etc up to 5000, then it went up with every 1000.
They stopped at 7000 though cos they didn't think anyone would get that high. I beat that within 6 months (i think i'm now on 10,600 posts or something) and they had to create a special status for me! ;D
sad, isn't it....!

Yeap, we can and do change the post counts required to gain certain levels. Methinks after this post...well, should we change them again? I also had an idea while I was away how to bring back the older -but better - extra ranks. I'll check if it's feasable sometime this week (hopefully!).

We don't need extra ranks!!!
I'm going to say something very unpopular here.
Flit: No! You'd never do that!
Lix: I'm in Kayt's play!
Yes, I am going to say something unpopular. I am against the whole ranking system. I think it encourages people to spam and to post for the sake of posting, which is fine sometimes, but it's irritating when people just post a smiley or something, simply because they feel they need to reply, even though they have nothing (however silly) to say.
I think it encourages individual members to be competitive, when they shouldn't be. Guild competition is fine, but I don't know about this competing to get the most posts.
And I think the fact that people who keep complaining and wanting more rankings speaks for itself, really.
All:
That's what I think anyway. I don't think rankings are neccessary at all. What does it matter how many stars you've got or who's posted the most?

No Kayt, I agree with what you said. The ranking system is a default proboards thing, and it's up to mods to just nominate how many posts equal a certain rank. No way to get rid of it entirely... Anyway, like I said, I agree with you. I don't like the amount of spam or competative posts it promotes...but the majority rules...I'm just following orders

Yeah, I've learnt to ignore my stars........except on the boards where they are pretty purple stars. But I'm in agreeance with the whole spamming-to-get-stars things. But hey, what can we do?

How about we draw deadlines for them, and then lock the posts rather than deleting?
...how about the Word Association and Last Person to Reply Wins ends on the last day of the month? And anyone who starts something like those in future needs to put a time limit on it?

Post by Dark One on Mar 24, 2005 12:28:10 GMT 11
It could work. I don't suppose on Probaords you can set an automatic time limit on posts?
If not, it means a bit mroe work for the mods & admins!

I'm fairly certain there's no way to time limit a post to lock it...but it's ok, locking a post is just a matter of going in and clicking on the admin functions ;D
By setting a time limit I mean whoever starts the post says something like 'game will be over on the 12th May'. If you give too long a time limit though the Admins might feel inclined to change it...
I'm liking this idea *runs to Guildmerge Hall*

You don't win anything for having the most posts, so why bother? It's all about quality at Ober.net, not quantity. I'd rather be part of a thread with ten thoughtful posts than fifty pointless ones.

We had a similar problem on our forum, until we started deleting the pointless posts. People stopped then!

If we did that, then Tegan would have a post count of about 5...oops, did I say that?
