Mmm, speaking of songs I went into the NYE thread and they were singing the Safeway/Woolworths song. It's so weird earing it about Woolworths! Safeway are the fresh food people!!
*parties about the lack of Normans*

In Tassie it used to be called Purity in Hobart, and Roelf Vos on the NW Coast Now it's all Woolworths, me thinks..

Nah, still Safeway in Vic. They have the same symbol and everything. I think we're getting a few Woolworths but mostly they're still Safeway.

Ahhh... Well, things like Carols in the Domain (the dodgy channel 7 version of Carols by Candelight) is sponsored by Woolworths and not Safeway, but I know my local Safeway hasn't changed it's name, and all the ads I've seen still sing 'We're Safeway the fresh food people, we're bringing food to life"

How strange, Its Woolworths all the way here in NSW, even though we usually shop at Coles. Youd think that just change it to woolworths to make life easy

Well, it was always Safeway here and they need to do it over a period of time since otherwise everyone'll be going "Who the hell are Woolworths and where the hell has Safeway gone?!"

Yeah I guess...but it would be easier if there was one name for a single shop. I mean, the same thing happened with Grace Bros and Myer, didnt it??? Anywayz, I have heard of Safeway before but i didnt think it was the same thing as woolworths, I guess u learn something knew everyday.

Thats interesting. I thought Safeway had only sold its UK stores!
In the UK, Morrisons (a northern Supermarket chain) has bought most of them.
It seems strange to me that Woolworths run supermarkets out there. In the UK they just sell toys, entertainments, sweets etc

As a former employee of Woolworths Ltd, may I assure you that they are all the same store. Rolf Vos and Safeway were acquired in Vic and Tassie, becaause that was simpler than building a bunch of new stores. (Woolworths itself was originally based in NSW). Why don't they change the name? I suspect it has to do with the expense of rebranding, and customer recognition. However, I suspect, as Myer and GB's, eventually they'll just do it, because the ongoing costs of producing different brnds and packaging and advertising in the stores to suit is more expensive than changing the signs one time . P.S I miss Norman. I want the Antelopes to come back!

I was just thinking the same thing! Normal was a deliberate typo! Normal is the cute version of Norman
