panadol is even worse, the actual name of the drug is acetominophen. Paracetaamol is also a brand name!

nope. It's in that much common usage now that you rarely see it. But that is the name of the drug.

wowza! well instead of "notebook" or "word processor" we just say "WORD" as in Microsoft Word. For example "Open up Word I need to write a letter"

Then how come woolies and stuff have home brand products with Paracetemol on them? Like, the brand is home brand but the product is called Paracetamol :S

Paracetemol is basically another word for the actual drug, and it's become used as the name of the drug because people recognise paracetemol and don't recognise acetominophen. If you found a packet with 500mg Paracetemol or 500mg acetominophen, you'd go for the paracetemol because you know what that is.
(man, that many 'paracetemol's in one paragraph makes it look like it's spelt really bad...)
