Just take baby steps. Be tentative and see where it leads you. Smile- I think smiling is good.

ok, if you were meaning flashy like i think you were meaning flashy, dont be flashy! I have two brothers, and one doesnt really talk about it, but the other openly finds it repulsive when girls dress like umm.. how to word it... well im sure you know what i mean, so i wouldnt do that....
i cant remember the in between options, but dont run away! You'll get no where with that!
I'd suggest just starting to talk to him, just little baby steps like Raineth said. Smiling is always good, but just try to say hi to him everytime you see him and make conversation when you can, just little things that which wont be obvious or too distressing for you to do!
Good luck!

being a guy myself if i found out i liked a guy my first impulse would be to RUN LIKE THE WIND
but if i liked a girl i would try to get to know her first smiling, saying hello
and eventually talking
compliments are good but you need to control power levels and how appropiate they are
but i'm not sure if they should be used until you have actually gone out with him
not sure if you shuld take my advice though firstly i'm a guy and and my insights are a little different
secondly i have little history in this area
but i recommend taking its always good to get to know someone before you get involved
SOME MEN ARE COMPLETE IDIOTS AND ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN ONE THING
NOT ALL THOUGH
believe me i have been around other men for a while

hmmmm thats a good idea, asking a guy for his point of view...but, OD, if u were approached by a girl and she was all confident and always laughing and ignoring you, how would that make you fell? would it make u think u like her?

if she approached me and then ignored me i think i would be confused by it as for laughing my jokes get a smirk at best
lots of inuendos
i guess i'd be my normal polite and friendly self and try to get to know her better
i like getting to know people

i would smile at him when you see him, just ike a friendly hello smile and work your way up to talking, and then just let it happen naturally. it worked for me, and if it doesnt happen at least you have a friend out of it.
just make sure you flirt a bit when you start talking and stuff or he probably wont get the point. but i recommend starting with a friendship, it makes for a much stronger relationship.
