Perhaps if you beat it about the monitor with a year-old French bread stick, with that sort of lime green mould it might work.
*crosses fingers for Brydie*

or maybe you could try bribe your computer to let you have a livejournal, perhaps its not letting you have one in protest to the repeated beatings

Brydie, please don't stress about it, it can drive you crazy!! I do the same thing - eg, I don't want to have kids - how could I bring them up in this world?
I don't know what the secret is when you want to care about someone other than yourself - but I know that there's not much we can do about the state of the world for other people - we can try our best to live our own lives and surround ourselves with the kind of people we want to associate with. But we can't, say, chuck Howard or Bush out of office and run things properly. If we can't do anything about it, there's no point in stressing over it. Everyone here already does their best to live their lives to a very moral set of guidelines anyway - so it's a start.
I'd love to be able to tell you it'll get better...but seriously, I don't believe it. How about even though it won't get better, life will go on. How do you want to live it - angry at everything, or filtering out the stuff you can't change and giving your old computer a good kick in the right place - all in aid of making it cooperate and allow you to have a live journal of course? ;D Sometimes I should listen to my own advice I suppose, because I'm very much the angry-activist too.

But we can't, say, chuck Howard or Bush out of office and run things properly. If we can't do anything about it, there's no point in stressing over it. That's exactly what i hate about this world!! when someone says 'Oh, it'd be nice if this could happen, but unfortunately it can't, so stuff it.' have they even TRIED to make it happen? Say you bought a plant and then someone told you that it's no use, you might as well get rid of it, it's not going to grow in the area. but there may just be a little spot somewhere around your house where the plant could grow and survive! how are you going to know if you don't try to plant it? ok, so maybe the person is right and it's not going to grow, but AT LEAST you tried. at least you tried to give that pathetic dying plant a chance to live.

I think the main reason many don't want to try is because they haven't got any hope - they see the state of the world as well and go 'stuff it'.
Sad... What you said made me realise that's exactly what I'm doing when I say I dont want kids - so they may have hardship and a crappy world to live in, but then again, they could do so much for the world... WHY am I even thinking about CHILDREN?! *shudders* I guess it's because realistically I need to look at my options within the next 10 years...*cries* I don't want to!!!
Anyway, Brydie, you're so smart!!

min ive added you
*hugs brydie* whats happened sweetie?
btw i love that philosphy about the plant, its so true.
min its ok to be thinking about kids, even if its not for some time yet, everyone does it. ive decided i dont want my own kids, i want to adopt. a good thing to since theres probably something like a 99%chance that im sterile, go too many x-rays.

Also, there are some things that we can't change - like political parties. I did try to change it with my vote but when it came to it, my vote didn't count. There's nothing I can do about the government taking 1/3 of my wage in taxes and hex repayments even though I've never finished my degree because I couldn't afford to live on a student income. It's a total rat race - and I hate it. But saying that there's nothing I can do about it doesn't mean that I'm just giving up - it means I'm acknowledging that there's somethings bigger and more important going on here than my life and the way I percieve it. Given the chance again, I'll keep trying to change it - I just can't focus all my energy on the hatred of it or I'll go no where in my own life.
And yes, what happened that got you to start thinking like this?

as you can see, i've worked myself up into a state from which only chocolate and a good movie can bring me down from! *hugs everyone*
what happened? what happened is i visited the members only board, as i do every day, and discovered a particular thread entitled 'the Book of Omega'. reading it made me think how rare a person with values and beliefs like his is in this world - and then i thought about how terrible it is that people like omega are rare. i thought about how easy it ought to be for people to be moral and civil and just - but it's not. it's not easy for human kind to realise how low they've sunk, when three quaters of the qorlds populations are starving to death - and we can do something about it! we have the technology and the money and the time to change this - so why aren't we? i'll stop now, i think...feels like i could go on forever...

I don't know why humanity's like that...the lack of hope is the only thing I can think of. Be nice and trusting to most people - you get used. Personal histories tainting our future decisions. Innocence and idealism being torn away by a grey real world. It's so good that Omega is brave enough to stand up and be different. I hope he realises how much we appreciate his input into this community - just as we appreciate yours Brydie - don't apologise for bringing it up. The fact that it upsets you makes you braver and stronger than most of the world - and you don't do it for any reason other than because it seems right.
I wish it were different in the world...lol I wish it was like Obernewtyn's community actually, or Sador. I suppose that's why Isobelle writes of these places and people, to try and let the real world see how absurd their prejudices and treatment of the world and all it's creatues are.

however, i'm only a kid. i'm young, and inexperienced, and who am i to say what's right and what isn't? please don't think that i'm saying that what i believe is right and everyone else is wrong - because thats not the way it is. all i'm doing is voicing my own opinions. there are people in the world who are also working for a better, equal world, a place where truly amazing women don't have to worry about bringing a child into the world for fear of it's future. i'm just frustrated at the lack of change, that's all. i know that i could be completely off track with this whole thing...but at least i tried.

yeah min i think thats why i fell in love with the books in the first place.
brydie mins right, omega is a rare person to stand up and i dont care how much the world sucks im going to do my part to make it better, even if i can only influence my own friends. even just a few people trying to improve the world is better than none, just remember to focus on what you can change.

Remember what The Book of Omega said:
We make our own society. So be nice to people, if only to change that society just a little bit.
Or words to that effect.

It has been done - I have used my new super-Tekkie powers and created a page of LiveJournals and blogs. You can find it on the main Ober.net website in the Members section. If you're not on there, but you'd like to be, just PM me. If you ARE on there, but you DON'T want to be, PM me. Huzzah for the internet!
